Perhaps you are looking for classical music or orchestated music.
For some legal reason you can use any music you want in a documentary. Because its considered like news i think. But it is impossible for me to help you without seeing your footage. Sorry. However when people are talking on your doc you can duck the midrange frequencies(of the music) to give it that doc feel.
P.s. alot of people use music that is older because it creats nostalgia and everone is familiar with it.
yeah..use suspenseful music
I believe the type of music your talking about is referred to as ‘instrumental’. Green Day has one called “Last Ride In” (from the album “Nimrod”). Another one of Green Day’s instrumentals is “Espionage” (frome the rarities album “Shenanigans”), but I haven’t heard that song, I just saw it on plyrics.com. The band Linkin Park has many instrumental peices (”Opening” and “NTR/MSSION” from “Reanimation”, The back 2/3 of “Cure For The Itch” (the beggining has an announcer) from “Hybrid Theory”, and “Session” from “Meteora”).
A quick overview of those songs: “Last Ride In” by Green Day is just rock, just slower. Kinda brings to mind the dog days of summer. The Linkin Park track “Session” is somewhat dance-y. The tracks from “Reanimation” are played mostly on some sort of Asian instrument, I believe it might be Japanese. “Cure For The Itch” is somewhat like “Session”, except w/ a piano.
I hope this is what you are talking about.
I would typr in certain songs you may want, then specify insturmental. A lot of music for movies is written and performed specifically for that movie. Good song for beer movie,,, “Alcohol” by Brad Paisley.
